FPRA Tampa Bay

Scholarship

FPRA Tampa Bay offers financial support to students enrolled in a Florida college or university who are seeking a degree in public relations. This year FPRA Tampa Bay will give one award totaling $500.00. Scholarship winners will also receive a certificate in recognition of their achievement and will be honored during an FPRA Tampa Bay program.

Candidates must be enrolled in a public relations major or emphasis track at a four-year university or college within the state of Florida and must have a junior or senior standing with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. An official transcript from your school may be requested with your application. Membership in FPRA or an FPRA Student Chapter is not required. View the eligibility requirements.

Students are, however, invited to submit a completed membership application along with their scholarship application. Student membership dues are $25 annually. To apply online or download an application, please visit www.fpra.org.

In 2008, FPRA Tampa Bay awarded a $500 scholarship to the University of South Florida junior Ashlee Alstrom for her dedication to creating a career in public relations. Alstrom plans to graduate in May 2009 with a goal to earn her Doctorate and teach public relations at the university level. Alstrom is a member of PRSSA, Ad Club, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Phi Sigma Theta Honor Society.

The 2007 scholarship winner, Kayla Munro, aspires to a career in political public relations with either a bureau or other governmental agency. She is well on her way to achieving her goal, as she is currently the director of marketing and public affairs for USF’s student government. Kayla will use the scholarship toward her summer internship in Washington D.C.
